The Washington State Forensic Investigations Council (FIC) was established by the Legislature to preserve and enhance the state's forensic toxicology and crime laboratories and to support and improve Washington's death investigation system. Additionally, the FIC authorizes expenditures from the state death investigation account to help fund forensic pathology and autopsy services, human remains identification, multiple fatality investigations, and a case management system for coroners and medical examiners.
The FIC consists of 13 members representing a broad cross-section of criminal justice, forensic science, and local government. Other than its one standing member, the Chief of the Washington State Patrol, members are nominated by relevant professional organizations and appointed by the Governor for 4-year terms.
Meeting are typically held on the fourth Friday of each month and are open to the public.
